Overview

The Towns token ($TOWNS) is the first utility token to secure communication on the internet. By staking $TOWNS, community members help govern the ongoing flow of messaging capacity on the Towns network and earn yield in return.

Fees from memberships, tips, trading, and other transactions flow back into the $TOWNS ecosystem through automatic buy and burn mechanisms, fueling the network and reinforcing community ownership.

About Towns

Towns Protocol is an open source protocol for building decentralized real-time messaging apps. It consists of an EVM-compatible L2 chain, decentralized off-chain stream nodes, and smart contracts that are deployed on Base. Towns allows people to create programmable communication use cases, referred to as “Spaces”, in a permissionless manner. These Spaces are ownable, feature on-chain subscriptions (”Memberships”), an extendable reputation system, and end-to-end message encryption.
